Scripture:

2 Timothy 2:15 Do you best to present yourself to God as one approved, a workman who does not need to be ashamed and who correctly handles the word of truth.

Observation:

Paul is telling Timothy to be the best minister that he can be, not just in his knowledge of the scriptures, but also in his character and integrity. He tells Timothy to present himself as a workman who does not need to be ashamed.

Application:

I think that one of the most important part of my witnessing is when I am able to go home at the end of a work day unashamed of the work and effort I put into that day, when my boss can be glad that he hired me. I think this verse is often taken to only mean that we know the Bible, or as another version puts it "studying to show ourselves approved....rightly dividing the word of truth." However, I think we tend to overlook the practical part of being a hard worker and great employee for what we deem as the more spiritual "knowing the Bible" part.

Prayer:

Father, thank You for planting me in a country where I am free to study Your Word, and learn how to be the man that You want me to be. Please help me to present myself to You as someone of the highest integrity and character. Please continue to develop my character and change the flaws in my character to match what You want me to be. Allow my work ethic to be a light to those around me. Do give me the discernment to correctly handle Your Holy Scriptures, as well as the insight to share those truths with others. Amen.

  1. Interesting, Clint. I honestly had never thought of it like that. I hope my boss is glad that he hired me ;). Seriously, it's true that not only is our rep on the line, but God's rep is, too. Nonbelievers will judge God by the way we behave. Great insight.
