Scripture:
1 Peter 4:7 The end of all things is near. Therefore be clear minded and self-controlled so that you can pray.
Observation:
Here he is speaking of Christ's return. Have a clear mind so you can pray and hear God.
Application:
Even though in this verse he is talking about Christ's return, I know that I'm not guaranteed tomorrow. I want to live each day as if it were my last. I see things so much differently when I live my life that way. I see what is important and the things that I thought were a big deal, aren't anymore. If I confess to be a Christian, my life should reflect that, people should see a difference in me. They should see the character of Christ. I should have His wisdom, which comes from reading His word and it should be in my heart. Whatever is in my heart will come out in the way I live my life. I should make mature decisions, not selfish ones and have self-control. Self-control is a big one, dying to the flesh is so hard. Just because I feel a certain way, doesn't mean it's right. If I want to live a victorious life for Christ and lead others in the way of righteousness, I must get over myself.
Prayer:
Father, You are all things to me. You give me hope and peace each day. Help me to see clearly, Lord, Your vision, not mine, to love others as You do. Amen
Man, Jean, you said it when you wrote "dying to the flesh is so hard." I have to remind myself of that SO often--you'd think after so many years, it would be second-nature, but alas, it does, indeed, die hard. :)
