Scripture:
Psalm 73:17 "Until I went into the sanctuary of my God; then I understood their end."
Observation:
The psalmist is distressed over the prosperity of the wicked. He does not understand why, though he is living righteously, he continues to suffer while he watches others enjoy the pleasures of sin. He struggles with this until he pours out his heart to God- it is there that God reveals Himself to the psalmist.
Application:
Sometimes we can look only on the outward things and see others, whether they are following God or not, prosper and succeed in ways that we are not. If we focus on this instead of focusing on Jesus, seeds of discontentment will be sown in our hearts, but if we continually turn to Him, He fills us with His truth, His purpose, His joy, and His treasures.
Prayer:
Lord, I confess that too often I compare my lot in life to that of others and allow the seeds of discontentment to fester. Please help me to fix my eyes on Jesus, the Author and Perfecter of my faith- drawing my purposes and joy each day from You. Thank You, Lord, that though my heart and my flesh fail, You are the strength of my heart and my portion forever! Amen
Beautifully said, Megan. I think you hit on something that every Christian faces frequently in their walk with Jesus. I know I do. Focusing on the supernatural is a daily discipline for me--a "task," so to speak. :)
