Scripture:
1 Peter 3:9 Do not repay evil with evil, or insult with insult, but with blessing, because to this you were called so that you may inherit a blessing.
Observation:
When we are hurt or threatened, the normal reaction is to strike back and to get revenge for what has happened to us. Jesus taught us that we are to turn the other cheek and then to pray with and/or for the person who wronged us.
Application:
This is a situation that is getting easier for me as time goes by and as the Lord changes my heart. I don't like being hurt or getting taken advantage of. In the past, I would have been much more inclined to get revenge or get even, bad mouth the person and let everyone know what they did. Praying for a person that threatened to kill me or hurt me would not have been on my list. I still have these tendencies, but I am getting better as my walk with the Lord matures.
Prayer:
Dear Lord, You are always working on my heart and mind to mold me into the vision You have for me. I pray that I will respond to Your works and that my heart and mind will be softened and changed. Help me to know Your ways and to respond in the way that You would be pleased with.
I have always loved this verse. I'm so glad that you chose to spotlight it today.
