Scripture:

Ezekiel 11:19 I will give them an undivided heart and put a new spirit in them; I will remove from them their heart of stone and give them a heart of flesh.

Observation:

I pray this prayer every day, that God change my heart and spirit so I am more attuned to Him and that I will care more about God’s will for my life than for my own; to change my divided heart that is torn between wanting to please God, and how I want the world to please me. I find it reassuring that God cares for me the same way He cared for these people thousands of years ago. God never changes. The things that hurt Him then, Hurt him now and He wants me to desire His grace, peace, love, and will as much now as He did then.

Application:

Being aware of the detestable thoughts in my head and the feelings in my heart is the first step in asking God to change them. If I just go through my day accepting the negative and hurtful thoughts I have, then I won’t care enough to change them. Some of the things that need to change in me can only happen if God changes them, but I have to ask Him to change them. I must want Him to take away my heart of stone and give me a heart of flesh enough to ask Him to do that.

Prayer:

Father God, please help me become more aware of the vile images and detestable idols that I have in my life. My greatest desire is to have a new spirit and a heart of flesh – the spirit and heart that You give me, Lord, not the one I have developed through all these years of following my own desires. Increase my longing to be more like You, Jesus, and give me a heart that loves and cares about the people You’ve placed in my life. Help me lead by example, Lord, and change me so that I may do just that. Amen.
