Scripture:

2 John 1:5 I am not writing you a new command but one we have had from the beginning. I ask that we love one another.

Observation:

John is re-enforcing God's command that we are to love each other.

Application:

Sounds so easy, yet, so hard. It's easy to love most people, then there are some...not so much. God commands this from me MANY times in scripture. He gives me this command (and the rest of them) because it's good for me and the people around me. He gives it because He loves me. Now, I had a hard time grasping how God could love me. A couple of days ago, I heard it put in a way that made the light turn on for me. Since I have children, it worked for me. You know when your child is in a school program. You are so proud of them, you're taking pictures, video, inviting family and friends to come and see them. Is it because they are a FABULOUS performer and outshine all the rest? Could be (or at least you think so). It's because, that's your child! You love them, they're YOURS! That's how God looks at me! He could care less if I know how to sing or dance, He just loves me. Totally get it now. In 1 John 4:11 it says "Dear friends, since God so loved us, we also ought to love one another." How can I not love others, when I know what He did for me on the cross, all because He loves me, who is nothing to some, but something to Him.

Prayer:

Lord, help me to love like You and to know what that looks like. Help me to be more like You each day. Thank You for loving me. I love You, Amen.

  1. Haven't you just LOVED these books of John?? Incredible reminders of love and how WE are to love! Thanks for hitting the nail on the head, Jean. He loves us SO much, not for what we do, but just because we are His kids! Thank You, Lord!
