Scripture:
1 John 5:20,21 20 If someone says "I love God" and hates his brother, he is a liar, for he who does not love his brother whom he has seen how can he love God whom he has not seen? 21 And this commandment we have from Him: that he who loves God must love his brother also.
Observation:
God has self-sacrificing love for us and it is pure and unconditional. That is the kind of love we must have for one another and God. If we love God through faith, can we not love one another through faith as well? We must, for God has commanded us to.
Application:
Wow, I say I love God with all my heart, but do I? If I harbor any hatred towards anyone, then I truly do not love like I say I do. That got me really looking at those in my life that I really have not forgiven or asked for forgiveness. I need to know I can love unconditionally. Do I have a heart like God? Can I love like God? YES, I CAN. With prayer and the word and living it out, I will show love through acts of kindness. I will make those phone calls! Thank you, Lord, for walking with me.
Prayer:
Lord , help me to stay strong in my convictions. Help me to humble myself and make things right. Thank You for sending Your Son to die for me. Thank You for loving me that much. Amen
These verses are always SO convicting! Argh. :) You're so right about them, Marie, and right that we CAN love as God loves, which is incredible (and usually unbelievable)...you really encouraged me today.
