Scripture:
Jeremiah 29:4-7 The Lord Almighty, the God of Israel, sends this message to all the captives he has exiled to Babylon from Jerusalem. 5 "Build homes and plan to stay. 6 Marry and have children. Then find spouses for them, and have many grandchildren. Multiply! Do not dwindle away! 7 and work for the peace and prosperity of Babylon. Pray to the Lord for that city where you are held captive, for if Babylon has peace, so will you."
Observation:
After reading the letter from Jeremiah to the exiles sent to Babylon, verses 4-23, I was looking for what he wanted. It hit me. It was what God wanted. He says, settle in, build houses, plant gardens, marry and have children. Make sure they have children. In these first 4 verses, what is God asking, or expecting? Obey what I say, don't do what you did to get you here again.
Application:
I read this letter several times, trying to look for what God wants. It is simple, but not easy. Listen to God's Spirit that is deep in me, and not to what my mind tries to tell me. By reading the Word daily and praying often, it becomes easier to know God's way and not what the world says.
Prayer:
I pray, Lord, that my heart stays true to Your Spirit that is within me, and I not yield to the ways of this world. My Father in Heaven, I love You, Amen.
Don't you just love how simple and practical the commands are?? And yet they were SO important! I wonder how many times we're caught looking for the "big" thing we're to do when really God's just asking that we live our lives "on purpose," so to speak. Love the blog, Mike.
