Scripture:
Jeremiah 4:19, 20, 22 Oh, my anguish! I writhe in pain. Oh, the agony of my heart! My heart pounds within me, I cannot keep silent. For I have heard the sound of the trumpet; I have heard the battle cry. Disaster follows disaster; the whole land lies in ruins. In an instant my tents are destroyed, my shelter in a moment.
My people are fools; they do not know me. They are senseless children; they have no understanding. They are skilled in doing evil; they know not how to do good.
Observation:
Jeremiah is anguished by the sure devastation of the coming judgment - the Lord’s impending punishment for their not obeying Him and their continuing in sin. While this chapter deals with the near destruction coming to Judah, it is not unlike where we are today – awaiting the end of time and the punishment that is likely to come through natural disasters and mankind’s own terrorism. Those who are right with God will not be punished.
Application:
God is in control – always. We have to trust that He will take care of us when the end comes. If we live as we should, God knows and is pleased.
Prayer:
Lord, I pray that my living is acceptable to You and I may be found to be a keeper when I finally lie in your landing net. I pray that I can influence my family and others that they, too, will pass judgment. In Christ’s name I pray, Amen.
Love the fishing analogy! :D I hadn't thought of being a "keeper," but you're right. Lord, may I be one!
