Scripture:
Ezekiel 16:4 On the day you were born your cord was not cut, nor were you washed with water to make you clean, nor were you rubbed with salt or wrapped in cloths. 5 No one looked on you with pity or had compassion enough to do any of these things for you. Rather, you were thrown out into the open field, for on the day you were born you were despised. 6 "Then I passed by and saw you kicking about in your blood, and as you lay there in your blood I said to you, "Live!"
Observation:
God is giving an analogy of Israel being born as a baby, not cared for, but despised and left for dead out in a field somewhere. Then He passes by, sees the baby and says "Live!"
Application:
We are grafted into the promises of Israel and throughout the scriptures, we as Christians can see analogies that fit out lives...this is one of them. The compassion and love that the Lord had on this baby lying out in the field, bloody, naked, probably crying or whimpering from malnutrition and over-exposure to the environment, and I see once again the completely awesome and undeserved love He has for us...He sees this little baby and says "Live!" That's what He did for me and I was never the same again. My musings...I know a lot of Christians who have come to Christ for what He can give and do for them--nothing wrong with that, I mean, I want eternal life in Heaven, a peaceful life here on earth (at least in my heart), etc....BUT sometimes I see "repentance" missing, like a lot of people not wanting to say "I'm filthy and unclean. I'm nothing with Jesus. Without Him, I'm useless." Without that humility, I'm not sure Jesus lives there.
Prayer:
Dear Father, thank You for loving me so much that you spoke life into me, a dirty, bawling baby. Without You I AM NOTHING. You are everything. Break pride in my life, that I never take credit for good things, but am quick to answer for the wrong things I do. I love You so much, and I want to thank You for picking me up by living my life everyday for You--in the best way I can, by following You and being obedient to You. In Jesus' name, Amen.
