Scripture:

Luke 11:44 "Woe to you, because you are like unmarked graves, which men walk over without knowing it."

Observation:

Jesus is really giving the religious leaders of His day a tongue-lashing. This is one of those passages that reminds me of the strong, assertive, "in-your-face," maybe even angry Jesus. They already don't like Him, but after this confrontation, they really hate Him.
Meaning of this verse: If a Jew were to walk over an unmarked grave, he would inadvertently be defiling himself (according to their laws).

Application:

The laws of the Jewish culture were very strict, including one such as walking over a grave--they would do anything NOT to defile themselves. So when Jesus mentions that the Pharisees are like unmarked graves, wow! He's saying that the common person, who only sees the phony exterior of the Pharisees, will be blind to the pollution they contract from coming in contact with such corrupt people! Dear Lord, help me to be "real," to be clean both inside and out!

Prayer:

Lord, my prayer is to be clean. I want Your light to shine in me and through me. If there's anything that is fake or artificial, show me, and help me to get it out of my life. I ask that You mold me into the kind of believer that whenever anyone comes in contact with me, they can feel Your presence, Your love; that they are challenged and encouraged to love You more.
