Scripture:

Luke 17:20-21 Once, having been asked by the Pharisees when the kingdom of God would come, Jesus replied, "The kingdom of God does not come with your careful observation, nor will people say, 'Here it is,' or 'There it is,' because the kingdom of God is within you."

Observation:

The Pharisees refer to the kingdom of God like it is an event, like it is going to happen and then they can get the T-shirt. They rightly wanted to see the kingdom manifest, but as Jesus pointed out, failed to see their role in it. Furthermore, the kingdom of God is already established. Notice Jesus says it "is within you," not will be.

Application:

Phrases like "let go and let God" are correct in the sense that God is the orchestrator. However, that does not release me from responsibility. The principle application of the kingdom of God is the renewing work that God is performing in His people. If I just sit there waiting for the kingdom of God to come without purposefully allowing change to occur, I will never see the kingdom of God in my life.

Prayer:

Father, mold me into the image of Christ so that Your kingdom will be made manifest in my life. Amen.

  1. "...purposefully allowing change to occur" is a great way of putting it, Guy. It's making me think. Great blog.
