Scripture:
Acts 1: 4-5,14a And while staying with them he ordered them not to depart from Jerusalem, but to wait for the promise of the Father, which, he said, “you heard from me; for John baptized with water, but you will be baptized with the Holy Spirit not many days from now.” All these with one accord were devoting themselves to prayer.
Observation:
Right after verses 4 and 5, Jesus goes up to heaven. It would have been very easy for those gathered together to just go home and be in a state of confusion by all that had happened. But they believed! They obeyed, although they had no idea what the promise really was. 120 waited as Jesus told them, and they devoted themselves to prayer! And we all know what happens in Acts 2. They did not know that was going to happen; good thing they waited. I am so thankful they waited, because I love Acts 2.
Application:
There are times when Jesus tells us to wait for the promise. We may be in a weird time in our lives when things are not making sense; very similar to the 120. So much had happened in their lives so very quickly that had turned their world upside down.
I want to believe the word Jesus gives me no matter what and just wait for His promise. I know I will be just as surprised and thankful as the 120 were when they received the waited for promise. I can’t even imagine what would have happened if they didn’t wait for it. How many times have I missed something so good God wanted to give to me, because I didn’t wait for it like He told me to?
Prayer:
Jesus, I don’t want to miss out on anything that You have for me. I want to wait for Your promises and receive them all. Thank You that You have so many good things for me!
Kim, I'd never thought of it like that before! GREAT blog!
ReplyDeletePromises of God...what an amazing gift! Me too...me too, Lord! I wait on Your very Words to me Jesus. I am reminded today to do this and I wait Lord. I feel like a child waiting for the Christmas morning to arrive or the tooth to be taken from under my pillow. Excitement!
