Scripture:

1 Cor 15:29-32 Now if there is no resurrection, what will those do who are baptized for the dead? If the dead are not raised at all, why are people baptized for them? And as for us, why do we endanger ourselves every hour? I face death every day—yes, just as surely as I boast about you in Christ Jesus our Lord. If I fought wild beasts in Ephesus with no more than human hopes, what have I gained? If the dead are not raised, “Let us eat and drink, for tomorrow we die.”

Observation:

The quote in verse 32 refers to Isaiah 22:13. Isaiah 22 speaks about a people going about their lives without considering God. Such a condition should have brought them sorrow, but they partied instead, even in light of knowing their fate. Paul is pointing out that if there is another life (i.e. resurrection), it is wise to live mindful of it.

Application:

I know that there is eternal life; it is wise for me to count the cost and consider God in my daily life. I have been under a lot of pressure lately with a full schedule. I have felt the time that I give to consider God slipping. This is the last relationship that I want to neglect.

Prayer:

Jesus, forgive me for taking You for granted. I treasure the blessings that You have given me. Thank You for taking on the cross so that I can participate in Your resurrection. Help me to remain mindful of You and Your will in each moment.

  1. Raw blog, Guy. I feel the same way many, many times...the One whom I love more than anything else I tend to take for granted because of His love and patience.
