Scripture:
Job 23:14-15 He carries out his decree against me and many such plans he still has in store. That is why I am terrified before him. When I think of all of this, I fear him.
Observation:
Job was so afraid of what God might do to him, and after being stricken with his physical ailments, and having his children killed, I feel that Job had every right to fear God. But it wasn’t God testing Job; it was Satan who was trying to destroy Job’s faith in God. Job’s fear of God actually kept him from turning away from God, and by not turning away, that was Job’s best defense against Satan.
Application:
When the most difficult and painful things happen to us, that is when we need to cling closer to God. If fearing God increases our faith, and if increasing our faith is a major weapon in defeating Satan, then I hope to always fear God.
Prayer:
Lord, fearing you is not a bad thing if it strengthens me and helps me to obey your commands. I ask you for fearful faith just like Job had. Amen
Nice blog, Mike. Really makes me think...
