Scripture:

1 Timothy 4:16 Watch your life and doctrine closely. Persevere in them, because if you do, you will save both yourself and your hearers.

Observation:

Paul is telling Timothy and "his church" to watch how they live and to live godly. Don't give into the patterns of this world, but be public about the scripture, preaching and teaching it.

Application:

This speaks to me in volumes as I have started a new job out in "the world" and am challenged to speak about my God daily. As Paul says earlier in the chapter to have nothing to do with godly myths and old wives tales, I can relate that to gossip and negative speaking. I am surrounded by it daily and this is telling me to have nothing to do with that, but instead train myself to be Godly. He also tells us to be public about it and our hearers will be saved. I love that! It's pretty simple really: all I have to do is speak publicly about what God has done in my life, watch how I live, and stay set apart from the world.

Prayer:

Lord, You are awesome to give us such blueprints to guide us in our growth with You. I do want to be set apart from the people that don't live for You. I want them to see Your everlasting love and kindness through my witness of You. Make me bold and firm in what I know of You and how I share that to the people that are hearing me everyday, everywhere I go. I love the way You love me, and I desire to show You my love in return. Amen.

  1. Great blog, Brook. It was encouraging about sharing my life with others and let God work through that. What an awesome God.
