Scripture:
Revelation 3:4 Yet you have a few people in Sardis who have not soiled (or defiled) their clothes. they will walk with me, dressed in white, for they are worthy
Observation:
Clearly, very few people in Sardis are walking with the Lord.
Application:
I have a picture in my head of a town of people who have heard the gospel and know the Lord, but over time they have allowed life's experiences to cause them to back slide. Sounds familiar. I was reading this verse out of the King James version, also. It used the word defiled rather that soiled. Down in the notes it says, "defilement occurs because we do not hate sinning. More importantly, we become defiled because we don't sense our need to cling to the Lord, who is our only good." So true. Psalms 101:3 says, "I will set before my eyes no vile thing. The deeds of faithless men hate; they will not cling to me." If I don't let the Holy Spirit guide my life, these thing will be very hard to do. Sin is fun. But I have a much bigger goal in mind. I WANT, with everything in me, to be dressed in white, walking with my Lord. I want that for everyone. I can't see how they wouldn't want it, too. That is why I need to share Christ with them.
Prayer:
Lord, I pray that I will be sensitive to the Holy Spirit prompting. I want to live the life that You have planned for me and not let my flesh get in the way of that. Lord, You are so loving and patient with me. Thank You for being my Father, the one I never had, who loves me unconditionally. I want to be with You. I pray for all of my brother and sister also, Lord, that they will desire only You for their lives and not what the world has to offer. I love You, Father. I praise You and thank You for all that You have done. Amen.
