Scripture:

Philippians 3:8 What is more, I consider everything a loss because of the surpassing worth of knowing Christ Jesus my Lord, for whose sake I have lost all things. I consider them garbage that I may gain Christ

Observation:

“No pain, no gain” is a term we are all familiar with. It means to be willing to sacrifice or lose something for the sake of something better. The better that “something” is, the more that person should be willing to lose to obtain it! To lose something less for something better is not really a sacrifice, just as trading a bag of garbage for a bag of gold would not be a sacrifice. The problem comes when we consider the garbage more valuable than the gold!

Application:

What do I consider of value in my life? What am I holding onto that is keeping me from gaining Christ? Do I value the garbage in my life as gold? Spending time in God’s presence changes my perspective and only when I am with Him can I see all my garbage for what it truly is...WORTHLESS!

Prayer:

Father, I thank You that You are willing to offer the trade of my garbage for the surpassing worth of knowing Christ! Today I let go of my garbage and I hold onto You! Amen.

  1. Your blog reminded me of the song we sang Sunday "Tradin' My Sorrows." We give Him all of our garbage and He gives us precious treasure. What a deal. :D
