Scripture:

Luke 4:16-19 He went to Nazareth, where he had been brought up, and on the Sabbath day he went into the synagogue, as was his custom. He stood up to read, and the scroll of the prophet Isaiah was handed to him. Unrolling it, he found the place where it is written: “The Spirit of the Lord is on me, because he has anointed me to proclaim good news to the poor. He has sent me to proclaim freedom for the prisoners and recovery of sight for the blind, to set the oppressed free, to proclaim the year of the Lord’s favor.”

Observation:

The devil's temptation of Christ was primarily concerning Jesus' Authority. Jesus did not bow to what the devil proclaimed His authority to be, but rather, Jesus gave glory to the Father and rested in His commission as proclaimed in Isaiah. We see the Father's Heart in the commission of Christ.

Application:

It is easy for me to get caught up in how I feel I should be living out my walk with Christ when it is so plainly spelled out. I share in the commission of Christ (Luke 9:23). I cannot sit idle by and let the government take care of the poor, for example. That is my mission because that is what the Heart of the Father is.

Prayer:

Lord, help me to live out the my life to the example that Jesus provides. It is my desire to be a good steward of Your kingdom.

  1. Guy, in view of what I've been reading about lately, your blog spoke to me. The part "it is so plainly spelled out." Why sit around and debate religion when it's pretty black and white what we're supposed to be doing? I know there are different methods, but man, sometimes the Church gets into such stupid debates. Just read the Word and do it. :)
