Scripture:

Acts 5:41 So they went on their way from the presence of the Council, rejoicing that they had been considered worthy to suffer shame for His name.

Observation:

These disciples considered it an honor to suffer shame for His name. To them, it was part of the outcome of a God-honoring lifestyle and in some ways was evidence that they were living the way they ought to. The very fact that it conflicted with the current culture enough to cause an adverse response from that culture was proof that they indeed were not OF that culture.

Application:

The theme of this verse and chapter has been resonating in me lately. When I consider the world that I live in and its ungodly culture, I am challenged to be a contrast to it. I, like most people, view shame as a negative thing and tend to avoid it, but if I am living in a way that pleases the Lord, I ought to be creating some friction. Jesus said if they hated Him, they will hate us. I am challenged lately to be more courageous with the truth, not fearing the response or the shame I may incur from the culture I am challenging.

Prayer:

Father, help me to be courageous with the Spirit and truth You have put in me. Help me to make a stand for what is right no matter the consequences. Amen
