Scripture:

Acts 20: 32 "Now I commit you to God and to the Word of His grace, which can build you up and give you an inheritance among all those who are sanctified."

Observation:

No one can make a commitment for me. People can let go and commit someone into the Lord's hands, but they cannot make that choice of what I do or don't do. That is only a decision that I can make for myself. I believe Paul is trusting the Lord to take care of them and encouraging them in how they can allow the Lord to take care of them. Ultimately the choice is mine.

Application:

So, if I choose to make that commitment, it will be reflected in what I do. Spending time in the Word not only demonstrates my commitment to Him, it also strengthens me. I learn who He is and who I am in Him. My focus isn't on this earthly life; it is on Him. This allows me the freedom to walk peacefully in circumstances and situations that I don't have control over or may not even understand. This is only one "small" benefit to my relationship with Him! The rewards/blessings of this committed relationship with Him are limitless!

Prayer:

Lord, thank You for the commitment You made to me before I was even born. Thank You that You honor Your commitments! Help me to honor the commitment I made to You. Help me to walk it out daily in what I do with my time and what I say with my words to those around me. Amen.

  1. What an interesting verse to use...a verse that I've just passed over many times, but you brought out a really neat thought in it. Thanks, Barb!
