Scripture:

Joshua 14:13-15 Then Joshua blessed Caleb son of Jephunneh and gave him Hebron as his inheritance. 14 So Hebron has belonged to Caleb son of Jephunneh the Kenizzite ever since, because he followed the LORD, the God of Israel, wholeheartedly. 15 (Hebron used to be called Kiriath Arba after Arba, who was the greatest man among the Anakites.) Then the land had rest from war.

Observation:

Caleb was given Hebron as his inheritance because he followed the Lord wholeheartedly. Words were kept from promises years before and he was blessed from his right doing. And to top it off....the land had rest from war.

Application:

I am just blessed to read this. I read that after many years, a promise is still upheld and a man is blessed because he followed the Lord. He was smart. He didn't fight the calling. He didn't fight the following. He just did as he was supposed to do and followed "wholeheartedly." That's the key for me today: in my heart, not just my mind....but heart and actions. Something to work on for sure. The last part of that scripture mentions that the land had rest from war. Proves to me again that when you are following God and listening directly to Him, it's not a battle!

Prayer:

I am so thankful, God, that You keep Your promises, you keep your end of the deal and I get to reap that. I am working towards a "wholehearted" following of You, Lord. I love that I get to work on that and that You lend grace where needed. I have been blessed by my following of You and I can only imagine what You have in store for me ahead. I have an amazing husband, amazing children, amazing family, I'm healthy and full of joy. You have blessed me beyond my deserving and I am so thankful. I pray my desire to follow You wholeheartedly increases more and more each day. Amen.

  1. We have so much to be thankful for--every one of us. Even just that we are saved by His grace--He's too good. :)
