Scripture:
Joshua 23:11-13 So take diligent heed to yourselves to love the Lord your God. For if you ever go back and cling to the rest of these nations, these which remain among you, and intermarry with them, so that you associate with them and they with you, know with certainty that the Lord you God will not continue to drive these nations out from before you; but they will be a snare and a trap to you, and a whip on you sides and thorns in your eyes, until you perish from off this good land which the Lord your God has given you.
Observation:
The Lord had fought for them and driven out the nations before them. As long as they lived for Him and loved Him He was the one they could count on. If they intermarried and associated with them the nations would become their undoing.
Application:
This scripture relates directly to our lives today once we are saved. The Lord absolutely will defeat the things that have ensnared us for so long. He absolutely will be our strength against them. However, there is a minor detail. We must CLING to Him. We must LOVE Him. And the clinging to and loving of our enemies will remove us from the very grace that can deliver us from them. In turn it is possible we will exempt ourselves from the blessing and abundant life God has promised to those who are His.
Prayer:
Father, these scriptures were written for me today. Let me understand the full meaning and application. Help me to cling to You and not "intermarry" with the things of the world.
