Scripture:
Galatians 2:16 know that a man is not justified by observing the law, but by faith in Jesus Christ. So we, too, have put our faith in Christ Jesus that we may be justified by faith in Christ and not by observing the law, because by observing the law no one will be justified.
Observation:
Paul is asserting with confidence that man can't earn his salvation; he can't observe the law and be justified--but instead, he is justified only through faith in Jesus Christ.
Application:
This reminds me of Martin Luther who lead the Protestant Reformation. I think he was wrong about a few things, but the basic "rebellious" doctrine he touted was the best thing that happened to the Church in a long, long time. He said that contrary to what the Catholic church said at the time, no one could earn or pay to be forgiven of his sins, but that man was justified only through faith in Jesus. He was excommunicated because he wouldn't retract his beliefs. I thank God that He is good to me and forgives me based on my faith. I couldn't afford to pay for all of my sins to be forgiven!
Prayer:
Lord, I am thankful for your grace and mercy on me. I am a true sinner in need of a Savior. You have given me Jesus, and I am thankful beyond words. I'm not worthy, and yet I'm justified because You love me. Thank You, Father, thank You for making me Your child. In Jesus' holy name, Amen.
Amen
