Scripture:

Psalm 39:1-4 I said, "I will watch my ways and keep my tongue from sin; I will put a muzzle on my mouth as long as the wicked are in my presence." But when I was silent and still, not even saying anything good, my anguish increased. My heart grew hot within me, and as I meditated, the fire burned; then I spoke with my tongue. "Show me, O Lord..."

Observation:

David resolves not to complain, to keep himself from sinning by what he says. But when he keeps quiet, when he holds back, his anguish increases, he becomes even more agitated. He meditates, then speaks - and to whom does he speak? God!

Application:

We all have complaints - whether we complain about our situation, about others, or even about God. David's solution was to not say anything, but it didn't help. His turmoil increased because he was holding it all in - until he meditated and spoke to God. It's actually a pretty simple solution - turn it over to God, ask for His help.

Prayer:

Lord, You know my heart O Lord, keep me under Your watchful eye. Remind me that I can always come to You. Convict me, make my first response, my first words, to be words to You, for understanding, for forgiveness, for Your grace. Thank You, Lord, for Your abundant grace in my life.
