Scripture:

2 Corinthians 8:13-14 Our desire is not that others might be relieved while you are hard pressed, but that there might be equality. At the present time your plenty will supply what they need, so that in turn their plenty will supply what you need. Then there will be equality.

Observation:

This scripture is not referring to communism, but rather is a brief lesson on giving, explaining that giving is a major aspect of being a Christian, but that it is supposed to be a balance. Yes, you should give when you can. Especially to your family in Christ. Find yourself with too much of something? Share. Find yourself with something you no longer need? Pass it on. Find a need you can fill? Fill it. You do not need to deplete your resources while you help someone fill theirs. In turn, God will provide for you through others when your resources are down. Hence, equality in Christ.

Application:

My brother shared a story today. He and his wife were in line to pay at the grocery store and the fellow in front of them discovered he did not have the needed funds to pay for everything. The gentleman was missing an arm and showed other disabilities, possibly had served for our country. My brother and his wife paid for this man's groceries. They do not have "extra" money, but they saw a need and they filled it. When I lived in Stayton, my neighbor was an older disabled lady. With Jeremiah gone working so much of the time, I usually cook for myself. I used to love to continue to cook for two and bring her the other half. Sharing...all parents know that our children grow like weeds, and when we know someone who has a child slightly younger than ours, we can pass on the clothing. Pass it on. There is always a way to give, a need to fill. Paying attention to our surroundings and having a compassionate "Christ-like" heart will give us the opportunity to fill those needs. We all have needs and have had moments when we felt that NEED. And God filled them...through others. We are all a part of His plan. Step up and take part. It doesn't have to be difficult and it doesn't have to hurt.

Prayer:

Oh, Heavenly Father, thank You for the blessing circle that You keep us in. Through You and Your heart, we are able to continue to survive and grow. We grow spiritually in Your faith, for these works of our brothers and sisters show Your love for us. I sometimes forget You are in charge. "You got this." Thank you, Lord for the reminder. You truly are awesome! In Jesus Name I pray, Amen.
