Scripture:

Matthew 24:1 Jesus left the temple and was walking away when his disciples came up to him to call his attention to its buildings. 2 “Do you see all these things?” he asked. “Truly I tell you, not one stone here will be left on another; every one will be thrown down.”

Observation:

The temple was where God dwelt, and it was the place that the Jewish nation related to their God. How they related to their God defined their culture and set them apart from the world. By the sacrifice of Jesus, we are now God's dwelling place and His temple. The physical temple was torn down so that God's big picture could be revealed. In some ways, the temple symbolized the hopes and dreams for the Jewish people. God had mercy by not giving in to their hopes and dreams. He loved the world so much that He tore down His temple in order to give us all a personal relationship with Him.

Application:

God has had tremendous mercy on me. At times it is hard to see it as mercy, but if He gave into my hopes, I would be stuck with my view of the world. Instead God gives me time to lay down my dreams to receive the life that He has for me and His life is so much fuller.

Prayer:

Thank You for Your mercy, Lord. Give me patience in times that I do not see it as mercy. Let me live Your life.
