Scripture:
1 Kings 3:7 “Now, LORD my God, you have made your servant king in place of my father David. But I am only a little child and do not know how to carry out my duties. 8 Your servant is here among the people you have chosen, a great people, too numerous to count or number. 9 So give your servant a discerning heart to govern your people and to distinguish between right and wrong. For who is able to govern this great people of yours?10 The Lord was pleased that Solomon had asked for this. 11 So God said to him, “Since you have asked for this and not for long life or wealth for yourself, nor have asked for the death of your enemies but for discernment in administering justice, 12 I will do what you have asked. I will give you a wise and discerning heart, so that there will never have been anyone like you, nor will there ever be.
Observation:
Righteous father David did an exceptional job, giving his son a great role-model to follow. Righteous Solomon had a giving heart. When God came to him in the dream, a place where the truth would be spoken, the real feelings of the heart were expressed. Solomon's desire was knowledge on how to guide and lead God's people. He just wanted to know right from wrong when leading them. What a true and awesome righteous heart Solomon had, one very pleasing to God.
Application:
If God appeared to me in dream and asked me what I would like from Him, how would I truly answer? What would my heart say to Him? Now seems like a good time to take inventory of what is in my heart. How would God react to what is truly in me? Do I want to turn hardened hearts to God, or even let them know I am a believer of God?
Prayer:
My Lord God, I pray that my heart stays true to what You desire. You always supply what I need to survive. Bless me with a heart to help those in need to come to You, and to help them in the journey to find the faith to believe that God will supply for whatever need comes up. I pray I always have a heart You would not be ashamed to look into. In my Savior's name, Amen.
What a beautiful post, Mike! I've never thought of that before? What would I say in my dream if God asked what I wanted more than anything else? Hmmm...gives pause for thought.
