Scripture:
2 Samuel 6:22a I will become even more undignified than this, and I will be humiliated in my own eyes.
Observation:
David has just brought the ark of the covenant into Jerusalem, the capital of the Israeli empire. He danced and rejoiced so much that his outer clothes came off, which was a shameful thing in those days, especially for someone who held a high position (let alone KING!). David's wife, Michal, despises David for it, and he tells her something like "You ain't seen nothin' yet!"
Application:
God, how many times have I feared obeying You because of what people around me would think? Way too many times. Obeying God is all that matters. I believe that everything else will fall into place if I do that. If there are times when people around me, even friends or family, can't understand why I'm doing what I'm doing, then I just have to rest in the peace of knowing that I'm pleasing God.
Prayer:
Father, cause a continual breaking inside of me that I might be more obedient to You. I do want to please You because I love You, but sometimes I know that I care more about myself than I do about You. I'm sorry. Please forgive my weakness. In Jesus' name, Amen.
