Scripture:
Romans 15:4 For everything that was written in the past was written to teach us, so that through endurance and the encouragement of the Scriptures we might have hope.
Observation:
Paul is saying that we have the scriptures available to us to learn from, and to gain hope, endurance and encouragement. We have the tool in our hand...now we get to use it if we choose.
Application:
I have the opportunity to take in the Living Word of God and yet I fail so often. I have the freedom, the skills and the time to feed my spirit daily, and somehow I struggle. Why do I get caught up in the whirlwind and the masterpiece of procrastination and feel as tho I have failed my every goal that I set at the start of the day? I beat myself up, and yet there is still grace and mercy from my God. So then when I finally sit down and start to read and take in the Word of God, I read scriptures that remind me to be honest with myself, have patience, strive to have the gifts of the Spirit in my life, and like the scripture above, continue to read the scriptures to learn of the past so that it will help with my future.
Prayer:
I serve a mighty God. I serve a God that has given me each piece of a puzzle, and when I sit to put it together, it fits and makes sense. Thank You, God, for the Scriptures that bring understanding, revelation, endurance, encouragement and hope. Thank You, God, for inspiring Your people to write Your words down so that hundreds of years later I could be blessed by them. I desire to be a more Word-hungry woman, Lord. Will You help me in that? Ignite a desire deep within me to learn and study more about You. It's very difficult to admit to this feeling of failure because I love You so much and I truly don't want to hurt You by saying I need more desire to learn more about You. I worship You and talk with You, but I don't take time out to get to "know" You for real. I will change, God, as I get closer to You. I want to be more in love with You. I will change God. Amen
