Scripture:

2 Chronicles 14:11 Then Asa called to the LORD his God and said, “LORD, there is no one besides You to help in the battle between the powerful and those who have no strength; so help us, O LORD our God, for we trust in You, and in Your name have come against this multitude. O LORD, You are our God; let not man prevail against You.”

Observation:

Asa recognized that he was disadvantaged and incredibly outnumbered in battle against Ethiopia's one million man army and he called to the Lord. FIrst of all, Asa declared the character of the Lord regarding his situation. Then he did not cry out "let not man prevail against us," but "let not man prevail against You".

Application:

Asa's prayer is a great example of the proper way to face a trial. 1. Give God praise for His superiority to whatever you are facing 2. Declare his ability to deliver. 3. Cry out to Him for his deliverance. 4. Fight. Also, one thing that underscores it all and gives his prayer so much more wait was that the situation was not of his own doing. Asa prays, "in Your name have we come against this multitude." It was a battle of the Lord. Therefore he was able to cry out, "Let not man prevail against You." Knowing that you are in the will of God and in His hand gives so much more faith and weight to your prayers. The outcome is for His glory more than ours.

Prayer:

Lord, teach me to walk in Your ways and on Your paths, not drifting one way or another, that I may have confidence before You in the day of trial, and that I may know that You will defend Your own glory in my life.
