Scripture:
2 Timothy 2:12-13 If we endure, we will also reign with Him. If we disown Him, He will also disown us; 13 if we are faithless, He will remain faithful, for He cannot disown Himself.
Observation:
Paul is calling his brothers and sisters in Christ to not grow disheartened when faced with trials. He's urging everyone to keep their faith up, move towards what God has called them to do, and not to get caught up in the distracting things of the world.
Application:
These passages are kind of like the old saying "keep your eye on the prize," but with this, Jesus Christ is our prize. We were not promised an easy life when we accepted Christ as our Savior. No one said that we would be popular or have great wealth. But because Christ loves us, He gives His children great things. At times it may be dark, there doesn't seem to be an end to the trials and we want to throw in the towel. We can rejoice because we know that God has us in His capable hands and is shaping us to be with Him. That's what trials and hardships are about. I have had a hard time keeping my eyes on the greater picture. I am guilty of being so focused on what I want in this life that I forget the real reason that I am here. God brings good and perfect things into the lives of those who choose to serve Him. I need to remind myself daily that without God this life isn't worth living and these trials that I go through will only make me stronger.
Prayer:
Father God, thank You for Your goodness. Thank You that You have created me for a purpose. Help me to remain focused on Your beautiful picture and not my finger painting. I believe and want what You have in store for me. Praise Your mighty name. Amen.
Loved your blog, Maddy. It's so true for each one of us--we forget SO EASILY why we're really here on earth. God, forgive me. Sheila
