Scripture:
Colossians 4;2-6 2 Devote yourselves to prayer, being watchful and thankful. 3 And pray for us, too, that God may open a door for our message, so that we may proclaim the mystery of Christ, for which I am in chains. 4 Pray that I may proclaim it clearly, as I should. 5 Be wise in the way you act toward outsiders; make the most of every opportunity. 6 Let your conversation be always full of grace, seasoned with salt, so that you may know how to answer everyone.
Observation:
Paul says we should be diligent in our prayer and be thankful. We should also be prayer warriors for our brothers so they may have the right words to proclaim who Christ Jesus is, and for ourselves to be wise in what we say to un-believers, watchful in how they perceive what we say and are eager to hear more. What I thought interesting was Paul was not praying for anything for themselves but for compassionate hearts and words for those listening to them.
Application:
If Paul can pray for clarity of words towards others while in chains and probably beaten and be concerned how they truly understand the message about Jesus, I think my need can be put aside and start praying for the lost that God puts in my path to help. My needs will be met when I go home to the Father.
Prayer:
Father, I pray that I get real to what really matters. My needs don't mean anything compared to finding just one lost soul that needs to hear about Your Son our Savior. I pray for compassion in my words to reach the hearts of those that are hungry and dissatisfied where they are now. In Jesus' mighty name, Amen.
