Scripture:

Hebrews 7:16-18 one who has become a priest not on the basis of a regulation as to his ancestry but on the basis of the power of an indestructible life. For it is declared: "You are a priest forever, in the order of Melchizedek." The former regulation is set aside because it was weak and useless (for the law made nothing perfect), and a better hope is introduced, by which we draw near to God.

Observation:

Christ was a priest, not based on the line of His ancestry which the law prescribed--physical connection to the line of the priesthood. The qualification is not genealogical, but spiritual--an indestructible life, therefore making it superior to the law.

Application:

Christ became a priest not on the basis of coming through the "priest line," but on the basis of a perfect life. I am not saved on the basis of where I come from, but on the life Christ lived and His death on the cross. I am not saved on the basis of a law or living by the law, but on the sinless life Christ lived and His death on the cross. My hope doesn't rest in where I came from or what I can do. My only hope is in Christ!

Prayer:

Father, thank You that there is a better hope than this world has to offer. Thank You that my hope is found in You!

  1. What an awesome scripture to blog about! I love the whole "Melchizedek" simile. I'm glad you chose that verse and then wrote something so profound and worth remembering! Sheila
