Scripture:

2 Kings 19:17-19 “It is true, O LORD, that the Assyrian kings have laid waste these nations and their lands. They have thrown their gods into the fire and destroyed them, for they were not gods but only wood and stone, fashioned by men’s hands. Now, O LORD our God, deliver us from his hand, so that all kingdoms on earth may know that you alone, O LORD, are God.”

Observation:

Hezekiah is putting the entire battle in God's hands. He is at a point of complete dependence on the Lord for the salvation of Israel. He is also exalting God above all other "gods" of the earth that were idols and man-made images.

Application:

God is the one true God. We, as humans, put our trust in so many things that can never take care of us. We put our trust in jobs, friends, houses, 401k plans, and any number of other things that won't really ever satisfy us. If we put all those things into God's hands, He can take care of all of them - and the things that may come against us. God can fight off our enemies if we'll put all of our trust in Him.

Prayer:

Thank You, Father, for promising to take care of me. You have proven over and over to be my advocate. Please give me the faith to continue to trust You with more and more. Show me the things that I hold onto, and then help me to turn those areas of my life over to You. And as I do that, I pray that You will fight my battles for me. Take out my enemies as I rely on You more to do just that. Amen.
