Scripture:
2 Peter 3:7, 9 7 By the same word the present heavens and earth are reserved for fire, being kept for the day of judgment and destruction of ungodly men. 9 The Lord is not slow in keeping his promise, as some understand slowness. He is patient with you, not wanting anyone to perish, but everyone to come to repentance.
Observation:
Peter is writing about future events, writing very prophetically about the future. The earth was destroyed once by water; next time it will be destroyed by fire. He's also writing, by the Holy Spirit's "hand," that God wants everyone to come to Him and repent. He doesn't want anyone to be destroyed and go to hell.
Application:
God wants me to be a witness for Him. Someday life as I know it will end, either by my own death or the coming of Christ (the latter is my hope:). I don't want anyone to go to hell, and knowing that God doesn't either, I know that He'll provide me with opportunities to share the Good News with others. He'll open up their hearts if I keep interceding for the lost.
Prayer:
Oh God, You know that this is my greatest passion. I believe it's Yours, too, for the lost to come to know You. Help me, God, to see those opportunities You give me to share Your love, and to say exactly what the Holy Spirit directs me to say. Convict their heart and bring them into Your kingdom. In Jesus' name, Amen.
