Scripture:
John 12:9-11 - Meanwhile a large crowd of Jews found out that Jesus was there and came, not only because of Him but also to see Lazarus, whom He had raised from the dead. So the chief priests made plans to kill Lazarus as well, for on account of him many of the Jews were going over to Jesus and putting their faith in Him.
Observation:
The miracle of Jesus raising Lazarus from the dead was causing many Jews to believe in Jesus. Therefore Lazarus became a target of the chief priests--getting rid of evidence.
Application:
This is another example to me that I don't just fight against flesh and blood, but the battles I face are spiritual ones. Lazarus had done nothing against the chief priests and yet they wanted him dead. His "crime" was living proof of the miracle Jesus performed. This put a target on his back. Satan hates anything that draws others' attention to Jesus. I have to remember that as a Christian I, too, have a target on my back. So as I face situations in my life, my focus has to be on the Lord so that I can see through the circumstances and not just try to fix them, realizing that I am not "fighting" people--but it is usually a spiritual battle that I face. Therefore it requires a different plan of attack--different weapons--in order to be victorious in each situation I face.
Prayer:
Father, this life can be so hard at times! Jesus, thank You that You always place Yourself between me and the target on my back. Help me to keep my focus on You and not on the circumstances that I face. May my life bring You glory! Amen.
