Scripture:

1 John 2: 17 The world and its desires pass away, but the man who does the will of God lives forever.

Observation:

This verse is a fantastic motivator. The things that the world has to offer are all only temporary, but the people that do what God wants them to do will last forever. John has set this up with several verses about loving our brothers and staying away from the sinful lusts of the world.

Application:

This verse makes me want to do the will of God every chance I get. I think that I can get very wrapped up in asking God to bless whatever I'm doing rather than searching for what He would have me do. I want to be in the middle of what He is doing rather than trying to get Him to surround what I'm doing. Not just so that I live forever in Heaven, but also so that the things I do in my time on earth live on beyond the years I am given. I think about the author of this letter, John, in that not only is his soul living on forever, but his words and deeds have lived on forever because he devoted himself to the will of God.

Prayer:

Heavenly Father, thank You that You have a plan and direction for my life. I am so grateful to know that my steps are ordered by You, and that You go before me in each of those steps. I pray that I will recognize Your will and stay on the path that You have laid out for me. Continue to guide my path as I continue to give You more and more control of my life. Amen.
