Scripture:

John 4:48 Then Jesus said to him, "Unless you people see signs and wonders, you will by no means believe."

Observation:

This is a portion of the "Jesus Heals the Official's Son" story. Jesus is speaking to the father who's son is close to death. The father is asking Jesus to come and heal his son. Jesus speaks this statement to him, the royal official says "Sir, come down before my child dies". Jesus then replies with "You may go. your son will live."

Application:

This speaks very loudly to me this week as I am reading in my Beth Moore study about Believing God...not believing in God but just Believing God. I have felt so many times that if only I would get to see a miraculous healing then it would increase my faith and belief. Its really not what I need. I truly need to just believe in my heart that I believe God is who He says He is. That should be good enough. Nevermind my "human" nature. I need to let my spirit man live louder than my flesh. I need to believe God before doubting and making excuses. I need to keep in my heart the truth and the reality of who Jesus is. I don't want a relationship based on "signs and wonders" but more on just the pure Word. The living Word, the true Word, the real Word and the guiding Word of God.

Prayer:

Father, I want to believe so please help my unbelief. I know that Your Word tells me who You are and I am taking it in and believing it. I believe You when You say that I should not fear and that I can cast my worries onto You and You will lift my burdens. I believe You when You say "Come all who are weary....and I will give You rest." I believe You when You say "I will never leave or forsake you." I believe You when You say that I am precious and chosen by You. Holy Father I pray that my faith increases moment by moment so that I do not need a sign or wonder to believe but that I am so close to You that I first believe then rejoice and praise You for the outcome. I love You Lord and I choose to believe, overcoming my unbelief. Amen
