Scripture:

Jeremiah 17:7-8 Blessed is the man who trusts in the Lord and whose trust is the Lord. For He will be like a tree planted by the water, that extends its roots by a stream and will not fear when the heat comes; but its leaves will be green, and it will not be anxious in the year of drought nor cease to yield fruit.

Observation:

This scripture comes sandwiched right between a bunch of passages regarding the judgment Israel will suffer for forsaking the Lord and following idols, and directly after a passage regarding a man being cursed for trusting in mankind. Even in Israel's rebellion the Lord continued to show them the good way and extend mercy to them.

Application:

This passage is amazing and is completely full of promise for anyone who desires to live a Godly life. The answers to all my struggles reside in simply trusting the Lord and drawing on His life. The imagery is vivid, showing me that even in drought I can be confident that my source of life is abundant, and I will continue to produce fruit.

Prayer:

Lord, make me THAT man who trusts You; that I would have my roots deep in the soil beside Your river; that I would produce fruit and glorify Your name in a world of drought. Amen
