Scripture:

John 17:15-17 I do not ask that you take them out of the world, but that you keep them from the evil one. They are not of the world, just as I am not of the world. Sanctify them in the truth; your word is truth.

Observation:

Jesus prays for His disciples that God would keep them and that they would be sanctified through the Word. Jesus isn’t afraid that His disciples will not make it, asking God to just take them now. Jesus is setting a standard of faith for His people to trust the Father. Trust Him that we can live this Christian life free from the world (that is the ungodly system and sin).

Application:

At times I can be overwhelmed and fear because of the evil that is in our world today. I can fear for myself, husband, kids and others; wondering how we will successfully live out our purposes in the Lord. These of course are times when my eyes are not on Jesus and what His Spirit has already done in our lives. I can feel fear when I’m not in the Word and my mind is left to the influences of the air. I love how Jesus asks the Father to sanctify the disciples in truth; which is the Word (written and spoken). God’s Word sanctifies me and brings me so much life!

Prayer:

Father, thank You, thank You, thank You for Your Word. Help me to trust You, that You alone are perfectly capable of keeping us and prospering us in this life. Amen.
