Scripture:

John 18, 30-31 30 "If he were not a criminal," they replied, "we would not have handed him over to you." 31 Pilate said, "Take him yourselves and judge him by your own law." "But we have no right to execute anyone," the Jews objected.

Observation:

They already had their judgment passed, just didn’t want to be the ones to say it. They needed someone else to do the dirty work.

Application:

I realize I pass judgment often even if I don’t say it out loud. The saying “If you don’t have anything nice to say don’t say anything at all” now seems not so nice itself. Then we are waiting for others to say it and then agree with “I was thinking the same thing,” isn’t that just as bad as saying it? Like the Jews wanting Pilate to be the one to pass the execution?

Prayer:

Father, forgive me for the judgments I pass on others in my thoughts, not just deeds. You see all and know my heart, Lord. Help me to keep not only my actions but my intentions clean. Teach me to love like You, Lord! In Jesus' name, Amen

  1. Thank you Lisa for your insightful words. I read your blog to my daughter in-law and we had a great talk together about how we can be judgmental even when we dont speak things out loud. Marie
