Scripture:
John 5:16 So, because Jesus was doing these things on the Sabbath, the Jewish leaders began to persecute him.17 In his defense Jesus said to them, "My Father is always at his work to this very day, and I too am working."
Observation:
The Jewish leaders couldn't stand that Jesus was doing miracles on the Sabbath day, a day that they believed a devout Jew did next to nothing. Jesus defends Himself by saying that God is at work, so He is, too. (This only elevated their hatred of Him.)
Application:
I've read this so many times, and yet this time it struck me as refreshingly odd that God Himself is at WORK. I always picture God just sitting and resting for some reason. He listens and wills things on my behald, but I've never pictured Him actually WORKING. Weird.
Prayer:
Father, do You really work for me? I pray through the blood of Your Son Jesus, and I know that it's through Him that I can access Your throne, but You are the giver of life, so that makes You proactive. I'm sorry for my misconception of You, Father. Help me to see who You are more clearly!
