Scripture:
John 7: 37-9 37 On the last and greatest day of the Feast, Jesus stood and said in a loud voice, "If anyone is thirsty, let him come to me and drink. 38 Whoever believes in me, as the Scripture has said, streams of living water will flow from within him." 39 By this he meant the Spirit, whom those who believed in him were later to receive. Up to that time the Spirit had not been given, since Jesus had not yet been glorified.
Observation:
Jesus is speaking to the people gathered in Jerusalem for a huge feast. He's speaking something akin to a riddle because these people have no idea what He's talking about. He's referring to the coming of the Holy Spirit after His death, resurrection, and ascension.
Application:
I can't wrap my mind--ever--around God's perfection. This plan He created and unfolded is so incredible...He creates man, man sins, He plans to give His own Son for man's redemption, works out all of the details that goes into the prophecies of the Messiah and the fulfillment of them, and send the Holy Spirit to work within us. He's beyond words or expression.
Prayer:
Father, Your plan, Your creativity, Your perfection is so far beyond my comprehension. I humbly ask that You help me to always value who You are. I pray that the Holy Spirit continually pours through me and uses me to glorify You and give aid to establishing Your kingdom here on earth. I love You, Father. Thank You for loving me.
