Scripture:

Lamentations 3:31-33 For men are not cast off by the Lord forever. Though He brings grief, He will show compassion, so great is His unfailing love. For He does not willingly bring affliction or grief to the children of men.

Observation:

I have a Lord who loves me enough to discipline me, even though it is hard for Him to do. The words that caught my eye were "does not willingly." God is not out to get me; He loves me, and out of that love is required to discipline me.

Application:

I find at times that I tend to forget that the Lord loves me and wants the best for me even when I have sinned. When I sin, I usually feel that I have to pay the price for that sin and will beat myself up about it or be harder on myself for committing it. These verses though are talking about a Lord who loves me and desires to show compassion on me even in the midst of my sin. He doesn't seek to discipline me to make me pay, but out of a love for me. And is willing to forgive me, if I ask, without any cost to me at times besides a repentant heart.

Prayer:

Lord, thank You that You paid the price for my sins. Help me to remember that my sins are paid for! All that is required from me is a repentant heart. Father, help me to remember that I can't earn Your forgiveness--I just have to receive it. Help me to receive Your love and grace for me. Amen and amen.
