Scripture:
Psalm 110:1-2 The LORD says to my Lord: "Sit at my right hand until I make your enemies a footstool for your feet." The LORD will extend your mighty scepter from Zion; you will rule in the midst of your enemies.
Observation:
David is declaring a prophetic word regarding the future of Israel as a nation and the rule of the Messiah.
Application:
I began to ponder what it must have been like for David to hear this word. Clearly he is talking of another Ruler when he refers to the "Lord said to my Lord" and not himself. Thousands of years before the coming of the Messiah David is given this insight. The amazing thing is that most of David's psalms are psalms of worship and praise. David is not generally considered a prophet, but being a man of worship, he couldn't help but hear the Lord's heart and thoughts. Insight into the Lord's thoughts is a natural outcome of being a person of worship and intimacy.
Prayer:
Lord, I desire to hear You and know You. I know it comes from being near You. Help me to become a person of greater intimacy with You that I may hear Your thoughts and know Your heart.
