Scripture:
Luke 1:30-38 30 But the angel said to her, "Do not be afraid, Mary, you have found favor with God. 31 You will be with child and give birth to a son, and you are to give him the name Jesus. 32 He will be great and will be called the Son of the Most High. The Lord God will give him the throne of his father David, 33 and he will reign over the house of Jacob forever; his kingdom will never end." 34 "How will this be," Mary asked the angel, "since I am a virgin?" 35 The angel answered, "The Holy Spirit will come upon you, and the power of the Most High will overshadow you. So the holy one to be born will be called the Son of God. 36 Even Elizabeth your relative is going to have a child in her old age, and she who was said to be barren is in her sixth month. 37 For nothing is impossible with God." 38 "I am the Lord's servant," Mary answered. "May it be to me as you have said." Then the angel left her.
Observation:
When God sent the angel to Mary, she was afraid. It didn't take very many words to calm her. When she was told of God's plan, her only question was how can this be I an a virgin. After only a few words, Mary is convinced and says, "I am the Lord's servant, let it be to me as you have said." Mary has so much faith and trust in God; she puts the secular aside and trusts fully in God and what His plans are.
Application:
How awesome it would be to be confronted by an angel of God and told what plan He has for me. But what would I do, react, or even believe? Has He already tried to expose His plan, through a down and out person that needed someone to talk to? Or maybe I had an overwhelming urge to pray with a certain person and didn't believe I heard right. How many times did I pass up what God had planned for me? Now is the time not to pass up what God may have planned for me. If Mary can believe she will have a baby, the Son of God, I should have enough faith in the small voice in my heart saying go pray for that person or go in this place and wait.
Prayer:
Lord, when I hear Your voice in my heart I pray for faith that I act and not put off what You want. I pray that I put off nothing You have for me, no matter how uncomfortable it may be for me. I love You, and I trust You, Father, Amen
